Qualcomm will introduce the new 7-series Snapdragon chipset in early 2021
Qualcomm unveiled its latest premium chipset, called the Snapdragon 888, this week. The company is also expected to launch a new upper-middle-end model, but we didn’t learn anything official about this during the Qualcomm Tech Summit.
Now the announcer on the Weibo site has announced that the new chipset will be introduced during the first quarter of 2021, and it will start shipping to the market almost immediately after the announcement.
Qualcomm's new 7-series Snapdragon chipset should be a major competitor to Samsung's 5nm Exynos 1080 chip with 5G modem and MediaTek MT6893 platform - an upper-middle-end chip created in a 6nm process yet to be released.
For now, almost nothing is known about the Snapdragon 7xx chipset, except for the SM7350 model designation and the codename Cedros. The prototype of the platform scored 530,000 points on the AnTuTu test, which means that it has significantly better performance than the Snapdragon 765G, but it will still be behind the SD865 model, which achieves over 600,000 points on the same platform.
