The OnePlus 8T Concept device

OnePlus has introduced a new concept device, simply called the OnePlus 8T Concept. Based on the existing OnePlus 8T phone, the new concept device is there to demonstrate the technologies the company is currently working on.

The OnePlus 8T Concept has a color-changing film under the back glass. The film contains metal oxide and can change colors based on different applied voltages by changing the valence state of the metal ions. The film can change color from silver to dark blue and black.


Another feature, which the OnePlus 8T Concept implements, is the mmWave radar system. This system can transmit and receive electromagnetic waves. This allows the radar system to observe, monitor, locate, and track objects. Radar can do this on a millimeter level, it works in any lighting conditions in which the optical ToF system cannot.

The OnePlus 8T Concept was designed by a team working within the OnePlus ecosystem, called OnePlus Gaudi. This is the same team that created the OnePlus Concept One device, which the company showcased during CES 2020. The OnePlus 8T Concept is not intended to be commercialized but will serve to showcase the technologies the company is currently working on and may or may not include in future devices.
