AMD has announced the availability of a Threadripper PRO processor
With the new Ryzen 5000 series of mobile processors, AMD announced during CES 2021 that Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors will now be directly available to professional users, and will arrive on the market in the spring.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors offer workstation customers up to 64 cores, 8 memory channels, support for RDIMM and LRDIMM, 128 PCIe Gen 4 lines, and AMD PRO security technologies.AMD Threadripper PRO processors are housed in the new WRX80 motherboards. Asus, Gigabyte, and SuperMicro have introduced the first WRX80 motherboards, and SuperMicro has also announced a complete workstation - the SuperWorkstation 5014A-TT.
AMD has also announced reduced TDP alternatives for the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and AMD Ryzen 7 5800X desktop processors, which only come in OEM configurations. Powered by the new Zen 3 architecture and with a lower TDP of 65W, the Ryzen 9 5900 desktop processor offers an average of 24% faster 1080p gaming in select titles compared to the previous 7th generation.
