Samsung's patent reveals how the company plans to implement under-screen cameras
Samsung recently filed a patent application with the USPTO, revealing how the company plans to make under-screen camera technology work.
The documentation mentions "Display Device" with two different, but still connected display panels. Most of the screen uses a standard matrix, while the smaller panel can be positioned next to the top frame, or in the upper left or right corner.
The smaller panel has a significantly higher possibility of light transmission, and in addition to the camera, it also contains an IR blaster and a flash. Also, the panel has a lower resolution, to further assist in light transmission.
Samsung is expected to significantly polish the technology before its release if it finds itself on commercial products. Some rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold3 could be the first Samsung phone on which the new technology will debut, but it remains to be seen whether that will come true.
