Huawei may be working on a gaming console, but will release a gaming laptop first
Rumors suggest that Huawei plans to enter the gaming hardware market. The company will first start with a small gaming laptop, which is expected to be released later this year.
After the laptop, and even more interesting announcement is expected - a gaming console that will compete with Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox models. There are no details on what kind of platform it will be, but it is expected that it will not be based on ARM like the Nintendo Switch.
The Huawei console may use an AMD APU similar to that on current PlayStation and Xbox models. However, Huawei could also try something with its design (like the HiSilicon Kunpeng 920 chip, based on ARM architecture).
Last year, Huawei released GameCenter - a gaming hub. The service uses Huawei Media Services for Android and contains a large number of Android games.
Interestingly, this would not be Huawei’s first console. The company released the Tron console in 2014, with a Tegra 4 chip and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform.
