Apex Legends could forgive you for losing matches against cheaters
Respawn Entertainment has launched a new video series called Respawn Responds in which they discuss the state of Apex Legends and the upcoming changes for it. The hot topic of the first episode was related to cheating in games and what specifically can be done about it. The design director in charge of Apex Legends, Jason McCord, explained how tricky it is to talk in advance about plans to fight to cheat because then the cheats reveal how the developers plan to fight them.
However, he did discover a few things, and one of them is the planned introduction of “forgiveness” for fraudsters. This is something that a lot of multiplayer games have, and the point is that if the system detects that you have lost a ranked match against someone who cheated, they will subsequently return you RP points as if you had not played that match.
Also, McCord said the team plans to introduce a notification system, where a user who reports a particular player on suspicion of cheating will receive a notification if that player has earned a ban. Steps are also planned against those who benefit from playing with cheats, and it is pointed out that developers can detect such players, they just need a lot of time because they have to follow them manually, at least for now.
