The creator of Overwatch leaves Blizzard after 19 years
The Blizzard Entertainment development team for the future is developing some exciting games like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, but in parallel, the company has been changing for several years. Long-term employees are leaving dissatisfied with the direction the company is heading. Although there have been no significant departures so far this year, it was announced yesterday that Jeffrey Kaplan, project manager of the Overwatch series and vice president of studies, will leave the team.
Kaplan spent 19 years in Blizzard and is considered one of the company's greatest creatives. He was a familiar face to Overwatch fans because he presented news and changes in the game and regularly appreciated player feedback. In doing so, he was atypically transparent and honest.
Kaplan leaves the company in the middle of the development of Overwatch 2, which is a kind of surprise, but they have already found a replacement for him in Blizzard, so the director of Overwatch 2 will now become Aaron Keller, another Blizzard veteran.
Kaplan did not state the reasons for leaving Blizzard. He said only that he was honored to work with everyone in Blizzard and is grateful for the support he has enjoyed over the years.
