Nintendo plans to creating original Switch games
Nintendo is a company that is often called to live on old glory. It's also clear why - their key series like Super Mario and Zelda is more than 30 years old, and the "side" ones like Super Smash Bros, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing have already entered the second decade of existence. In the last decade, Nintendo has had only a few successful, yet completely original games, such as e.g. Splatoon and Ring Fit Adventure.
If Nintendo's president is to be believed, the winds of change could soon blow. In an interview with Nikkei, Shuntaro Furukawa said the company must focus on creating original games to keep the Switch console competitive in the market.
"As people spend more and more time at home, the range of entertainment as a consumable product increases. But video games are not a necessity in life. For customers to choose video games for their limited time, video games must be interesting. The competition is fierce and I am not an optimist. I research and study different forms of entertainment. In the future, we will therefore focus on creating new games with the best-selling names like Maria and Zelda. ” Said, Furukawa.
