Greedfall on the Game Pass got a free next-gen upgrade
Almost every month, we are greeted by an affair with upgrades for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S that may or may not be available for free. First Control did not have a free transition to the new consoles for all owners of that game. Square Enix then shared the Final Fantasy 7 Remake for PlayStation 4 for free via PS Plus, but without the option to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version.
Here is a new drama now.
The average fantasy RPG called Greedfall got its Gold release today with the expansion of The De Vespe Conspiracy. The game is also optimized for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, and all PS4 and XBO version owners get better performance on the new consoles - completely free.
However, Greedfall was shared with a PlayStation Plus subscription in early 2021, and PS Plus subscribers rightly wondered if they would get improvements on the PlayStation 5. The answer is - no. Not only are they not on par with those who bought the game, but they can’t even pay to upgrade to the PS5 version at all but they have to buy the game at the full price in the PS5 version.
Now, to make matters worse for PlayStation Plus subscribers, it has been revealed that Greedfall on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service will have a free upgrade if you play it on Series S or X consoles. In other words, it turns out that Greedfall publishers prefer one subscription service over another, meaning that PS Plus subscribers turned out to be less valuable compared to Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
Of course, the reactions to this are mostly negative, and many claim that this move will bounce off the heads of publishers and that the name of this game will take on a whole new meaning.
