Will Rock - On this day
At the beginning of the 21st century, our Serious Sam refreshed the genre of violent shooters, which was ruled by Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior until then. Seeing that such games could be successful, the Saber Interactive development team devised their hero and named him Will Rock, gave him deadly weapons in his hands, and sent him to kill hordes of demons.
Will Rock was a first-person shooter in which the title character Willford Rockweld found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. A group of fanatics has revived the Greek god Zeus who kidnaps the girlfriend of young archaeologist Will Rock so he must embark on a rescue mission. We heard worse plots, but that's how it was.
Archeology is not a science that makes a man an arrogant hero, so the development team came up with the story that Will Rock was possessed by Prometheus and made a demigod. I don't know what the explanation was for that character's atomic cannon, but there it was. A total of 11 powerful weapons were used on 15 different monsters from Greek mythology.
Will Rock had a single-player campaign with ten levels and a multiplayer component with three modes. 18 years ago, it was a pioneer of certain technologies, so it had the effect of melting ice in real-time, as well as the effect of inflating enemies, also in real-time. This game was therefore often shared in a graphics card package at the time.
Admittedly, it didn’t help Will Rock because the criticism was very divided. Some loved the game, some hated it, but love was not enough for Will Rock to come to life as a series or to appear outside the PC platform. Today, the game can no longer be found in digital sales.
