The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will soon no longer be getting new games
We all know that Nintendo currently has one current console - the Nintendo Switch. However, it still counts that the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U are somewhat alive. These consoles are no longer produced, but in digital form, they can get new games that can be purchased through eShop. However, it seems that it will not be like that for a long time.
Nintendo's European arm has reportedly started informing developers that the eShop store will close its doors for new 3DS and Wii U games after the end of Nintendo's current fiscal year - April 1, 2022. Nintendo states that existing games will remain available on eShop and will be able to receive updates as before. The only difference will be that consoles will no longer be able to get new games.
Last week, Sony did the same thing for its old console - the PlayStation Vito, which will also no longer receive new games.
Because the Nintendo Wii U console was financially unsuccessful, the developers quickly lost interest in it. On the other hand, 3DS had a far longer and more meaningful life cycle. Nintendo worked for that portable console until the beginning of 2019, and since then they have completely switched to Switch software production.
