Overwatch 2 lost producer, project manager leaves Blizzard
Blizzard is not blooming roses this year. Ever since allegations surfaced suggesting that the studio is a very toxic work environment, the company has had numerous rosters and employee restructurings. Some left voluntarily, like the creator of Overwatch - Jeff Kaplan. Others, like former President J. Allen Brack was fired.
Blizzard's turbulent period is not even close because Chacko Sonny - producer and development manager of Overwatch 2 - decided to leave the company this week. This game with Diablo 4 is currently Blizzard's biggest project, and it is quite likely that the departure of its producer could have consequences on the final product.
It is possible, for example, that we will now wait longer for the game than anticipated, and it is also possible that the new development manager will have a different vision of what Overwatch 2 should be. Admittedly, Overwatch 2 seems to be in its final stages, and the game is expected to launch in 2022.
Either way, it’s not a very good sign when a game producer leaves the studio just before the game is complete. But given the current situation in Blizzard, this is probably one of the milder problems they have to deal with.
