The number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers is growing, but not as expected by Microsoft
They released a new financial report from Microsoft in which they looked at the business with the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. This time, too, they did not want to directly divide the number of active subscribers, it was only said that the number of subscribers increased by 37.5% compared to the previous fiscal year.
It doesn’t sound like a bad statistic, but it’s below Microsoft’s predictions. Namely, the company expected that the Game Pass would grow a little faster - by 47.8% more subscribers compared to fiscal 2020. Expectations were high because in the previous fiscal year Game Pass grew by 86%, and then Microsoft was not yet on the market had new Xbox Series X and S consoles.
The last time Microsoft boasted several subscribers, the Xbox Game Pass had 18 million users. It was in the first month of 2021. Later, rumors surfaced that the platform had reached 30 million subscribers, but the Xbox boss dismissed that number and said the latest statistics of 18 million subscribers were still being held.
The reason for the slow growth of the Game Pass can probably be found in the fact that the Xbox has not had any sound hits in the last year. Halo Infinite has gone from a launch exclusive to a game for the winter of 2021, and there has been no new Forza or Gears in the last year. Quality titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Grounded jumped in, but those games themselves weren't sounding names to attract more users to the Xbox Game Pass.
