Uncharted 2 - On this day
The first two years of the PlayStation 3 consoles were practically forgettable. Only Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune offered a glimmer of hope for that expensive console. The situation turned around in 2008 with a few good exclusives, but it was only in 2009 that we witnessed today what the Sony console is capable of doing.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves continues the story of a hidden treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, who follows in the footsteps of Marco Polo to a mystical place called Shangri-La. Of course, Drake goes through a bunch of troubles before that, the cult one from the very beginning of the game in which he wakes up in a hanging wagon in the middle of the Himalayas.
In addition to improving the gameplay of the original by adding several new features, Among Thieves greatly improved the visual presentation and brought an interesting story that was worked on by three screenwriters (atypically many for one game).
Unlike the original, the sequel also had a network multiplayer with cooperative and competitive elements. Although it was not revolutionary in any way, it offered good entertainment during that time and was later expanded with several DLC packages.
Uncharted 2 delighted both critics and audiences, which was reflected in sales that reached 6.5 million copies, making Among Thieves the fifth best-selling game on the PS3 console. He picked up the Game of the Year award from us and remained in the memory of many as the most impressive game of the series until the arrival of Uncharted 4. Many still remember the level with the train on which Drake crashes a helicopter.
In 2015, Uncharted 2 was remastered for the PlayStation 4 as part of the Nathan Drake Collection, and that remaster can now be purchased separately.
