A former Rockstar employee thinks the next GTA won’t be a humorous game
One of the co-founders of Rockstar Games, Jamie King, did an interview for the Spanish YouTube channel killazspain, in which he shared his vision of future GTA games. Although King has not been an employee of Rockstar for 15 years, he knows the way the company works well and is therefore in a slightly better position to speculate about the future of the GTA series than most other experts on the subject.
King states that Rockstar is unlikely to change the mechanics and structure of the gameplay, despite some criticism that they are outdated. What he expects to change is the tone of the GTA games themselves, and he believes that future GTA titles may not be as humorous and satirical as the previous ones.
There is nothing concrete behind this speculation, it's just King's thoughts. However, if it turns out to be a true rumor that drug cartels will be one of the themes of the new GTA game, Rockstar may leave the forced humor to others (read: Saints Row). If anything, Rockstar has already shown with Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption that they can handle serious topics.
