Chinese Tencent bought the creators of Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood
Chinese giant Tencent is once again expanding its influence in the video game industry with the acquisition of American Turtle Rock Studios. It’s a team that had a successful Left 4 Dead series, then threw themselves at the failed Evolve, only to return this year with cooperative zombie shooter Back 4 Blood.
It is not known how much Tencent paid for their new team, they just say that nothing in their work will change. The team will still have their independence, they will no longer look for a publisher for their games. Turtle Rock Studios, on the other hand, says that nothing will change around the plan for Back 4 Blood, which they launched for the WB Games label.
Tencent currently owns several studios, including Riot Games, Funcom, and Supercell, and has majority ownership of Sumo Digital, Klei Entertainment, and several other teams. In other words, we are approaching the day when Tencent will be ready to launch its gaming platform outside the Chinese market.
