The Japanese have selected the 100 best games in history, only six of them are not from Japan

Japan’s TV station Asahi recently held a selection of the 100 best games in history. The choice was limited to console games, whether home, portable, or hybrid, with approximately 50,000 Japanese players voting.

The list of the top 100 best games chosen by the Japanese audience is surprising. For starters, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from 2017 was named the best game. Although this is a legendary game, Zelda fans more often prefer the second game - Ocarina of Time - which was only in 17th place in this selection. It is also surprising that series like Splatoon and Dragon Quest found themselves ahead of Pokemon on the list.

What is not surprising is that the list includes mostly Japanese games. There are almost all Final Fantasy titles, almost all Nintendo series, and cult series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Among the 100 best games in history chosen by the Japanese, there are only six titles of "foreign" production. The infamous games that are a kind of intruders on the list are Minecraft, Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight, Ghost of Tsushima, Undertale, and Tetris.
