The switch overtook the Nintendo Wii and became Nintendo's best-selling home console
Nintendo has a year behind it that has dominated the market like never before. In 2021, it so happened that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in both the European and American, and Japanese markets. It has to do with the slower production of PlayStation and Xbox consoles, but as things stand now, the Switch could soon become the best-selling home console in 15 years.
Namely, as of 2021, a total of 103.54 million copies of the Switch were sold. Thus, the Switch became Nintendo's most successful home console, surpassing the result of the once-popular Wii. With this result, the Switch surpassed the original PlayStation and became the third best-selling home console in history, behind the PlayStation 4 and 2.
The standard Switch model still sold the most. In the last nine months, 11.79 million copies of the standard Switch have been sold, the Lite model has sold 3.99 million, and the new OLED model 3.17 million copies. Most Switch owners are Americans, followed by Europeans - a total of 26.98 million players in Europe use the Switch, slightly more than in Japan.
For the past nine months, Switch's best-selling games have been:
- Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl (13.97 million)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (7.96)
- Mario Party Superstars (5.43)
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons (4.99)
