Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Has Set a New Record for Movies Made by Games
The film hit Sonic the Hedgehog 2 during its US premiere last weekend and managed to raise as much as $ 71 million. With this amount, Sonic recorded the most successful first weekend in the US market when watching movies based on a video game template. The previous record was held by the first Sonic film of 2020, which raised just over $ 58 million at its premiere.
Interestingly, the second part of the Sonic saga proved to be a great success for actor Jim Carrey as well. Carry’s previous biggest commercial success was Bruce Almighty, with $ 68 million sold in its first week of release. Recall, Carry in the film plays the role of Sonic's main antagonist, the famous villain Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
In addition to Robotnik and the title character Sonic, the film will feature other popular characters from the game, such as Miles "Tails" Prover and Elba Knuckles, played by famous Hollywood actor Idris Elba.
Given the commercial success, it should come as no surprise that the third part of the adventure of the most famous hedgehog in the world has been confirmed. Moreover, producer Toby Ascher has announced that the entire universe of Sonic films has already been planned.
"The creation of the Sonic film universe has already begun, so it's natural to gradually introduce characters like Tails and Knuckles to the audience," Ascher said. With a rich history of games, there are many characters that fans of the series want to see in the film, so we can soon expect other colorful Sega creatures such as Shadow Hedgehog, Rouge the Bat, and Big the Cat or Vector the Crocodile.
