Dr. Strange 2 on the First Weekend Showed That Fans Are Crazy About the Multiverse

Marvel’s new film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, premiered in most markets last week and grossed $ 450 million after its first weekend. This is the second-best result in the last two and a half years, right after the successful film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In the U.S. market, Strange surpassed the result of The Batman (134 million) with a revenue of 185 million, which previously had the best opening in 2022. Overall, "Multiverse of Madness" had the 11th most successful premiere weekend in the US market, of all the films ever launched. In the context of Marvel movies, this is the seventh most successful opening - Spider-Man: No Way Home, all four Avengers movies, and Black Panther were more successful.

This is a big improvement for the Doctor Strange film series itself, considering that the first weekend of the "multiverse" was twice as successful as in the case of the first film from 2016.

We only have the analysis of the audience that watched the film for the American market. There, Strange had 62% male viewers, and of the total audience, 16% were minors.
