The Gran Turismo film was given a release date, and the first details of the plot were revealed
Last month, we learned that Sony plans to make the God of War and Horizon series, while they want a film adaptation for Gran Turismo. Looks like we won’t have to wait long to see this iconic racing franchise on movie screens.
Namely, Sony set August 11, 2023, as the release date for the Gran Turismo film. The director will be Neil Blomkamp, who is known for his SF films (Chappie, District 9, Elysium) - but he is no stranger to the gaming industry. Blomkamp is currently collaborating with the Gunzilla Games team on a new battle royale game, and in 2019 he also directed a trailer for Anthem.
Some details of the action were also revealed to us. The Gran Turismo film will be based on the true story of how a young Gran Turismo player became a professional race car driver. Sounds original, if nothing else! It can be speculated that GT Academy tournaments, which enabled Gran Turismo players to win the opportunity to drive professionally for Nissan, could play a significant role in the film.
Given that Uncharted has been successful in theaters, this may be a movie hit for Sony. But nothing will come close to the popularity of Morbius, of course.
