Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4 remaster was planned, now it’s not
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 was a great remaster that framed skateboarding nostalgia in a modern outfit. And for many fans of the series, the logical sequence was a remaster of the next two games. As Tony Hawk himself revealed yesterday, that was the plan - we were supposed to get Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4. However, the plan eventually failed, according to the VGC.
The main reason for this was that the Vicarious Visions development team, which worked on THPS 1 + 2, merged with the Blizzard team during the development of the Diablo 2 remaster. As most Activision teams are working on Call of Duty, Activision decided to hire an external team for THPS 3 + 4, but reportedly were not happy with any of the ideas presented by external studios to remaster the remaining THPS games.
So THPS 3 + 4 isn’t under construction right now, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see it one day. Tony Hawk himself concluded the story by saying that you never know and that he didn't even believe that we would get THPS 1 + 2 a full 20 years later.
