Quake 4 will return in an enhanced edition
Quake 4 is a 17-year-old game and also the last Quake with a single-player campaign. Although it was not as famous as its predecessors, it seems that the developers plan to breathe new life into it. Currently, the game is free as part of the Xbox Insider program, and users can test the version that will appear on Xbox Game Pass.
According to users who have tested Quake 4, it is a technically improved version of the game compared to the version sold on Steam and GOG. Namely, Quake 4 is locked at 62 fps, and players have to force the graphics settings through the configuration file to play the game at full quality on today's graphics cards. This should be fixed with the new version.
The return of Quake 4 could be announced next month when the QuakeCon convention takes place. It is also possible that we will get an announcement of a completely new game in the Quake series there, given that the studio id Software has been working on a new project since the beginning of 2020.
