Tony Hawk invests in NFTs and builds the biggest skate park in the metaverse
It is questionable whether we will see new games signed by the famous skater
Tony Hawk in the future. But Hawk hasn't given up on virtual worlds as it has
just announced that it is entering the world of blockchain gaming.
The
result of his investment should be Tony Hawk Land – a virtual skate
park that should be the largest of its kind in the metaverse. Or metaverses.
The park will be located inside a voxel world called The Sandbox, which is
based on the Ethereum blockchain. The Sandbox is known for its monetization of
virtual lands/lots, but also other content in the form of NFTs.
So
what does Tony Hawk Land mean to video game fans in a nutshell? It's not
entirely clear yet, but Tony Hawk will likely be selling his gear in virtual
form – as NFTs. For example, you'll be able to buy Hawk's skateboard
design and then be the only one in the world who has it and brag about it to
your mom and hope that one day it's worth more than what you paid for it, so
you can get rid of it when it's gone. a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Hawk
says that he has been a fan of technology since he was young and is fascinated
by the concept of the metaverse. By the way, he is not the only famous name
associated with The Sandbox platform - existing partners include brands such
as Atari and Adidas and musicians such as Snoop Dogg and Deadmau5.
